My research interests include the modeling and optimization of
cyber-physical systems, and drawing lessons from these large scale
distributed intelligent systems about our natural world. While the
Internet has provided pervasive interconnection of computers and devices
worldwide to create the digital world, sensor and actuator networks
take a step further in creating a two-way interface between the digital
and physical domains.
The CPS paradigm presents both opportunities and challenges for computer scientists, and will have impact not only at the technological level, but also on the social and natural sciences as well. The breadth of these implications highlights the clear need of approaching them through increasing cross-disciplinary efforts.
